Apple officially fined $41 million for secretly slowing old iPhones

Back in 2017, evidence emerged that Apple had been using software updates to limit the performance of older iPhones in an attempt to encourage users to upgrade their devices. The updates had a lot to do with the hardware capacity of the older phones, but lack of consent from users was the main focus of the controversy. Apple admitted that the updates were in an attempt to save the phones’ battery life, but that didn’t stop lawsuits in California and Illinois from being brought forward. Over in France , Apple was  facing a criminal probe following multiple complaints, and a preliminary investigation began in early 2018. Now, France’s Directorate General for Competition, Consumer Affairs and Fraud Prevention ( DGCCRF ) has determined that Apple’s initial lack of transparency breached its guidelines, and fined it €25 million euro ($41 million). “The DGCCRF has indeed shown that iPhone owners had not been informed that the updates of the iOS operating system (10.2.1 and 11.2) they

Avicii Receives Two Posthumous Swedish Grammis

Avicii’s posthumous album  TIM was released last year, following his death in April 2018. In recognition of the album, it was awarded two Grammis (the equivalent of the GRAMMYs in Sweden): Song of the year for “SOS” feat. Aloe Blacc and Best Electro/Dance of the year for the album,  TIM . Carl Falk shared the news on social media, stating, “Congrats everyone involved for receiving two Swedish Grammys for the album Tim. We worked hard all of us and the smile on Klas face says it all. Well done.” He continued in a second post, “I took the chance yesterday during my short speech to talk how important it is today to talk about mental illness and how stress, performance anxiety and burnout is something you deal with a lot as an artist, songwriter or producer. We all love to spend that extra hour in the studio to make a deadline or play that extra show when you really need a day off. And the bad thing about always being strong is that no one asks if you’re okay.” Falk was responsible

Tiësto Won’t Be At Ultra 2020, The First Time Since 2006 & Only Second Time In 20 Years

Image
Every year since 2002, with the sole exception of 2006, Tiësto has played Ultra Music Festival in Miami. Only one other DJ can match his number of appearances at the festival, Carl Cox, but it’s tough to say anyone else has had the impact on the legacy of the festival that Tiësto has. Now, for the first time in 13 years, and only the second time since 2002, Tiësto will not be on the lineup this year. The DJ confirmed he will not appear in the final phase of the festival lineup in the comments on his most recent post on Instagram. With artists like Flosstradamus , What So Not , and Hardwell on indefinite hiatuses, and Tiësto not playing Ultra for the first time in over a decade, it begs the question whether there will be a changing of the guard soon. Certainly with artists like Subtronics, Kayzo, Fisher, Charlotte de Witte, The Chainsmokers, Marshmello, and Martin Garrix — all  very young  artists — championing their genres and selling out stadiums (some of them, at least), the t

SCNDL, Flaremode, & Casper Yu Team Up For Gigantic Single, “The Cross” [Generation Smash]

As Generation Smash continues on an elevated, on-the-rise 2020 schedule, the Smash The House offshoot from Dimitri Vegas and Like Mike shines a light on fresh producers shaking up the scene; this time with Melbourne maverick SCNDL, Italian titans Flaremode and Chinese newcomer Casper Yu. Bringing a transatlantic fusion of the trio’s inevitable flair together, they rock “The Cross” with militant beats, throaty low end vocals and winding synths from the get go. From bad boy-delivered toplines, juxtaposed with processed tones that catch the listeners’ attention, it’s a union of horn-tooting mayhem injected with attitude, bite and presents an urban stance before double-time beats whirr the scale up past 11. A sure-fire, stadium-slaying anthem that is undoubtedly here to devastate dance floors as this introduction presents itself with a talent way beyond the trio’s years spent in the scene.
