Back in 2017, evidence emerged that Apple had been using software updates to limit the performance of older iPhones in an attempt to encourage users to upgrade their devices. The updates had a lot to do with the hardware capacity of the older phones, but lack of consent from users was the main focus of the controversy. Apple admitted that the updates were in an attempt to save the phones’ battery life, but that didn’t stop lawsuits in California and Illinois from being brought forward. Over in France , Apple was  facing a criminal probe following multiple complaints, and a preliminary investigation began in early 2018. Tidal ‘s latest reported global revenues jumped to $148 million in 2018, but no thanks to the United States. According to new documents filed at UK Companies House, the platform’s parent company  Project Panther Bidco grew 26.4% year-over-year to $147.6 million in 2018. However, revenue dropped 19.7% in the U.S. from $71.5 million in 2017 to $57.4 million that same year. Overall, the company saw a profit of $44.7 million in 2018. With 60 million songs and 250,000 videos streaming in high quality, and often times exclusive audio/visual content, Tidal attributes 97.7% of its revenue to direct subscriptions. The financial docs state: “the Group continues to invest in technological and marketing platforms, with significant enhancements to its product in the form of new user-friendly features (such as algorithmic mixes), new advanced sound capabilities and expanded performance-based growth and retention marketing.” Tidal was founded in 2014...

Avicii’s posthumous album  TIM was released last year, following his death in April 2018. In recognition of the album, it was awarded two Grammis (the equivalent of the GRAMMYs in Sweden): Song of the year for “SOS” feat. Aloe Blacc and Best Electro/Dance of the year for the album,  TIM . It’s been eight years since Girl Talk hit the touring circuit — but that’s all about to change in 2020! The king of top 40 mashups just announced the good news. Girl Talk kicks the jaunt off in Cleveland in late April, then hits major cities including Chicago, Denver, Vancouver, and Austin throughout May. The tour wraps up in June with a set at NYC’s Governors Ball. Every year since 2002, with the sole exception of 2006, Tiësto has played Ultra Music Festival in Miami. Only one other DJ can match his number of appearances at the festival, Carl Cox, but it’s tough to say anyone else has had the impact on the legacy of the festival that Tiësto has. Porter Robinson is taking a moment today to remember an artist dear to his heart, Qing Han aka  Qinni . In December 2019, Qinni informed her followers in a post on social media that she’d been diagnosed with stage IV cancer. Her doctors were expecting her to live for a modest amount of time — a year, to a year and a half — but her time was cut much shorter. EDM never forgets a good remix… and on this day in 2014, Audien  dropped his progressive house remix of “Pompeii” by Bastille . Following this breathtaking live debut at Ultra Music Festival in Miami, the remix caught on quickly with dance music fans across the world. The song went on to receive a Grammy nomination for Best Remixed Recording, Non-Classical, proving itself in the mainstream as well. Six years after the fact, this version of “Pompeii” is still the version we crave. Certain songs have the ability to freeze a memory or a moment, like this one, and make it last forever. A man was caught trying to bring in over 1,000 MDMA capsules to  Transmission Music Festival in Sydney, (not to be confused with Transmission Festival in Prague), according to a new report . Of the six people charged with drug supply, this one man singlehandedly brought in enough MDMA to offer 1 in every 12 people at the festival. A 19-year-old was caught with 287 MDMA pills, a 31-year-old with 195 MDMA pills, and an 18-year-old woman allegedly concealed 180 MDMA pills internally. 32 others were processed for drug possession. Despite these charges, the crowd of 12,000 people was generally described as “well-behaved.” On Friday night, police reportedly seized a total of 2,000 MDMA capsules, an undisclosed amount of LSD, and a knife from the festival at Sydney Olympic Park. deadmau5 has been testing out a new stunner of an ID — and thankfully, this unreleased goodness has been captured on camera. While the vast majority of material featured in the  cube v3 show is familiar to the audience, this elusive ID remains a complete mystery. According to Reddit, deadmau5 did mention on one of his tour stops that it’s finished, so hopefully we’ll get an official release sooner than later. Now, he has drastically one upped himself by making an entire DAW (digital audio workstation) with the same software. Plus, the xlStudio program has the ability to export to .als files, which are compatible with  Ableton Live . The last time we heard about a possible Martin Garrix and Zedd collaboration was December 2019 , from Zedd who posted pictures of the two lounging and at a festival in Indonesia.
