Ultra Music Festival is one of the biggest music festivals on the planet, dance music or otherwise. It also happens to be the biggest festival in Miami, bar none. Despite its success, the festival and city of Miami often butt heads. Miami residents have complained about the festival for years, so much so the City Commission often votes if Ultra can stay. Earlier this month news spread about the commission voting on a contract with Ultra to host the festival at its current venue of Bayfront Park. The vote was originally going to be held this month, but the vote has been delayed to September. Miami City Attorney Victoria Mendez told the Miami Herald  the contract between Ultra and Miami had not been finalized. Notably, the final length of the contract and the cost of rent had not been finalized. Originally, the contract was projected to run for five years and stipulated Ultra to pay $2 million to the agency managing the park each year. Ultra has been held at Bayfront Park since 2012

Tomorrowland 2018 heard a lot of amazing music, modern bangers and older classics, unreleased ID and freshly dropped new music. When we play back the two weekends, it sounds a little something like this. Note: these numbers solely reflect set lists uploaded to 1001tracklists, but may be representative of larger trends at the festival. It’s been a little over four months since allegations of sexual assault caused Datsik to lose everything – his label, his management, his booking agency, and his career. At the time, Datsik was also half of the bass house duo Ephwurd , from which he also relinquished his role . The other producer in the project, Basie Hauser , kept a stiff upper lip and through the emotional rollercoaster he was on at the time, has come out the other side. Aphex Twin is definitely up to something and we’re just dying to know what. There are no cryptic social media posts or cheesy promo videos here. In true Aphex Twin fashion, his new teaser comes in the form of these artistic prints photographed below, specially designed to mimic their surroundings in which they’ve appeared in London and Turin. These 3D visuals are so on point, they might fool you for a second. But no, Aphex Twin didn’t carve his logo into these urban streets or underground. When Illenium debuted his forthcoming new song “Take You Down” at Global Dance Festival earlier this month, he told the crowd that it was a very personal song for him. The precise reasoning for the song’s importance to Illenium remained a mystery until today, when he shared his own dark past with addicition. “Six years ago I overdosed on heroin,” writes Illenium. It’s not a sentence that any fan expected to hear, but the potential for addiction lives within anyone. The song is about his battle with addiction and overcoming the hurdles attached to it, and how much saved his life. The fight for mental health awareness continues, most recently with rising producer Ekali sharing his thoughts on the issue. Ekali is responsible for many of bass music’s favorite tracks and is a quickly rising producer that most people will know about within the next year. But behind the scenes, he reveals he is afflicted by a chronic persistent “epileptic phenomenon” that manifests with near constant physical, emotional, and mental symptoms. “It’s a bit of a mixture of epilepsy, panic/anxiety disorder with extreme dissociative symptoms (derealization + depersonalization). In a post being shared on Facebook, one woman claimed to have had her phone, her ID, and bank cards stolen after she was hit with pepper spray in the crowd at Tomorrowland this past weekend. The incident allegedly took place right in front of the festival’s Main Stage on Saturday, according to an RTL report .  According to an official Tomorrowland spokesperson, the organizers have not received an official complaint about the incident but have confirmed reports. Although security measures have been amplified at festivals around the world, there seems to be always room for improvement. “We carry out standard checks at the entrance, the pepper spray is a prohibited weapon and therefore prohibited, it is clearly stipulated in the regulation,” stated the spokesperson. The Russian duo Synergy seem to be pumping out the tunes at a crazy level lately, with two EPs out on Eatbrain alone in the last three months, not to mention singles on Neosignal, Viper with Teddy Killerz and a remix on RAM for DC Breaks. Music festivals have a responsibility to keep their attendees safe. That responsibility includes security, such as security checks, item restrictions and security guards. In light of the 2017 Las Vegas mass shooting, and other comparable security threats,  Lollapalooza will increase its security this year. For 2018, Lollapalooza will push back its security perimeter, including increased police patrol on surrounding streets and in locations overlooking the Grant Park venue. More police will be present at the festival and in surrounding areas, with a special emphasis on hotels and high-rises. The security efforts are a direct response to the news that the Vegas gunman booked rooms at an overlooking hotel during last year’s festival. The gunman never used those rooms for nefarious purposes, but security increases are being made to alleviate potential attendee fears. Fresh from her incredible performance on  Tomorrowland’ s main stage,  Alison Wonderland  has revealed the full cast of stellar talent joining her for her upcoming US Tour, with  Baauer, Party Favor, Elohim, Chet Porter  and  Bleep Bloop  all in attendance. Making history as the highest ever billed female DJ at Coachella, Alison’s schedul e follows the release of her album  Awake , which dropped earlier this year . Having teamed up with Party Favor for a track on her album, Alison will be reunited with the Manhattan-born DJ on August 31st during her set at Echostage Washington, with Chet Porter kicking off the first two nights of the tour at Denver’s Ogden Theatre on August 3rd and 4th.
